While Jon is an English name, my surname originated in the Basque Country, Northern Spain. Others might pronounce my name differently, but this is the way my kids say it so it must be right.
My surname means something like "exposed place of prominence", which, in theory, couldn't be more opposed to my very autistic personality. I wouldn't mind "cosy and tucked away", but, just like Bilbo Baggins, I guess my Took side caught up with me.
Lots of people choose to "correct" my surname to 'Aguirre', which is the Spanish spelling. But I chose to use the Basque spelling ('Agirre') because the surname is originally Basque. Please use 'Agirre' when referring to me.
