My double last name follows tradition in many global south communities, where one last name comes from each the mother and the father. Saldívar comes from my father and García comes from my mother.
As the first child in my family to be born in the US after my family immigrated to the United States of AmERICA, I suspect my name honors my parent's new home country.
In the US many people default to my second last name (García). In Mexico, where my family is from, folks default to the first (Saldívar). I prefer both used together.
