"Ashley" is an English name. The surname McHale is of Irish origin. My older sister named me! My parents wanted a name that went well with my aunt's name as my middle name, and my sister, who was 10 years old at the time, suggested "Ashley".
"Ashley" means "from the ash tree meadow". The surname McHale translates into Irish Gaelic as MacCeile which means "companion". So I guess I'm a companion from the ash tree meadow!
Many people mispronounce the last name, saying "Michelle" or "Michael", especially when reading it and the H is not capitalized (Mchale). It can make for some awkward interactions!
